Mass gainer shakes or weight gainers are an easy way of getting in a lot of calories fast. This is perfect for hard gainers ( people who struggle to gain weight). Mass gainer shakes are inexpensive but are mass-produced and not always use the best ingredients and could be filled with sugars and unhealthy fats. That’s why I like to make my own homemade mass gainer shake.

The mass gainer shake or weight gainer shakes are made with products you all have in your kitchen. So nothing special, really simple.

Who Should Take Mass Gainer Shakes

Mass gainer shakes are perfect for people who want to gain weight and build muscle, but struggle with gaining weight.

Some people have high a very active metabolism, which means they burn calories really fast.

And the only way to gain weight is to consume more calories than you burn.

For example, if you’re a male, and your maintenance calories are 2500 calories you’ll need to eat in a surplus of at least 200 calories a day to gain weight.

Getting all those calories from whole foods can be a real struggle, especially when you don’t have time to cook all day, or have the finances to do so.

That’s when mass gainer shakes come in. They’ll add a quick 1000-1200 calories per shake. 1 scoop is around 300-400 calories but we’re going to make our own mass gainer shake homemade.

When you’re making your own mass gainer you want to make sure you track what you put in. 

You don’t want to find out after you’ve made the mass gainer shake that you’ve put too little of everything in and ended up with not enough calories.

The whole purpose of the mass gainer shake is to get in a lot of calories at once, but you also want to make it high in protein and other macronutrients. 

When you’re bulking you need to eat A LOT so you don’t want foods that are high in fiber or very calorie-dense foods. 

The foods need to digest quickly so that you’re ready for your next meal.

I highly recommend getting a high-quality blender as you’re using a lot of ingredients. Also, have I noticed that normal sized blenders don’t cut it size-wise. Your shake is going to be big so you’re going to need a big blender. 

I used to have the small 1 person sized Nutribullet which is amazing, but for these large mass gainer shakes it’s essential to have a good larger one.

This blender is a bit on the more expensive side, but it’s seriously amazing, and buying a high-quality blender once saves you money in the long run

I suggest adding more milk for a smoother consistency, or adding more oats for a thicker consistency.

Mass Gainer Shake Chocolate Flavor

For this homemade mass gainer shake, we’re not using protein powder, but we’re using cottage cheese. 

Cottage cheese is rich in protein and works super well in shakes. This mass gainer shake or weight shake is over 1100 calories. 

This is already a huge step towards your daily caloric intake. One thing I want to add is that you can always add foods that you like, since you’re trying to gain weight all the calories are welcome.

Ingredients
  

  • 500 ml Full-fat milk
  • 250 grams cottage cheese
  • 100 grams Fine oats
  • 2 tbsp Flaxseed oil
  • 100 grams Frozen mixed berries
  • 2 tbsp Cocao powder, or sweetener

Instructions
 

  • Add the full-fat milk to the blender
  • Then add the 250 grams cottage cheese. 
  • Next, we add the fine oats.
  • Add 1 or 2 tbsp of flaxseed oil.
  • Add the mixed berries. I prefer frozen berries or fruit because I like my shakes cold.
  • Lastly, add the cacao powder or sweetener.

Notes

For this homemade mass gainer shake, we're going to use cottage cheese as our main protein source. The cottage cheese also gives the mass gainer shake a nice consistency. 
You can add more if you want to have a thinner consistency, or add some more oats if you want it to be thicker.

Vegan Mass Gainer Shake Homemade

The previous 2 mass gainer shakes were shakes that included dairy, but I wanted to provide you with a shake for the people that are lactose intolerant or vegan.

This weight gainer shake is still high in protein so don’t worry about that.
